After returning from the Vietnam war with the 25th Infantry Division in December of 1970 James (Butch) Lawson was physically and emotionally impaired, but there was little understanding by anyone at that time, including Butch, of the turbulence beneath the surface of his life, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) had not yet been diagnosed as a stand-alone illness. Only years later as his health was seriously deteriorating, did he seek and receive professional help. Butch became aware that he was probably one of the Lucky ones who had survived a terrible ordeal. As he recovered he was devastated to learn that Veterans in America are commit- ting suicide at a rate of more than 22 per day and that thousands are homeless. Even today in 2024 there are still many homeless Veterans on our streets across the country . That is why Butch formed Helping Our Heroes Project so he can help as many Veterans as he possibly can.
This picture on the right of SGT Lawson was taken at Ft Hood Texas in 1969.
His two tours in Vietnam was in 1968 and 1970.
We started Helping Our Heroes Project with a simple goal in mind: to create a platform that makes it easy for our Homeless Veterans to get the help they desperately need and deserve to have a better way of life than on the streets.
At Helping Our Heroes Project, we believe that building a strong and supportive organization is key to success. That's why we've created a platform that puts our Homeless Veterans first .
We will do everything we possibly can to help these Veterans , they do not deserve the hand they were dealt. These Heroes fought for us, now it is time to fight for them. Please help us save our Heroes.
We are now training K9's for our Veterans.
Thank You Mabank Animal Clinic for giving our K9's the best care possible.

Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions for our Homeless Veterans and also help us give a Veteran with PTSD a K9 companion . Your generous donation will help fund our mission. Veteran suicide is still very high at this time in December 2024 heading into 2025. We need your help.
